New Nautilus Bidirectional Slabs

 

NEW NAUTILUS is a modular formwork made of recycled polypropylene (PP) designed for the lightening of the reinforced concrete slabs poured on-site. 

The concept is the creation of a bidirectional slab that can be used for the realization of huge size floors with a reduced thickness;  the plastic lightening permits the obtainment of a structure composed of a lattice of eight-sided beams enclosed between an upper flat sheet and a lower one without any cast of new concrete.


In this way the creation of flat intrados, large spans, bidirectional and capable of bearing huge loads slabs, is possible. This can happen thanks to the weight reduction and the reduction of concrete consumption valuable up to the 25%.


Beams and pulvines can be placed within the slab section (thickness elements) in order to realize wide slabs with an high architectural flexibility and without structure obligations. 

 

NEW NAUTILUS system, is created with recycled materials, it’s easy and fast to place in the construction site and sustains all the structure.

How much concrete can be saved in respect to a ceiling slab solution?

In a calculation of a slab realized with NEW NAUTILUS, deformation is the paramater that defines the thickness and the sizing. This value is based on the passiveness of the section concrete+steel. Replacing part of the concrete with NEW NAUTILUS formwork’s empties, the passiveness will decrease, so to mantain a suitable deformation an increase of the slab height is recommended (a few cm).  However, generallly the reduction of concrete weight and consumption varies between the 15 and 20%. 

How much steel can be saved in respect to a ceiling slab solution?

In the calculation of a slab created with NEW NAUTILUS EVO, deformation is the parameter that defines the thickness and the sizing. This value is based on the passiveness of the section concrete+steel. Replacing part of the concrete with NEW NAUTILUS  EVO formwork’s empties, the passiveness will decrease, but at the same time, the slab self weight decreases too. The result is a very small difference between the steel of the traditional and lightened solution (from the 2% to the 5%).
