Geopanel for the efficient building of any wall: Baardskeerdersbos case study

Geopanel is the reusable formwork system in ABS technopolymer for walls by Geoplast. Thanks to its versatility, it can be used not only with concrete but also with a large variety of eco-friendly materials, such as rammed earth (with 6% lime) or hemp, thus allowing substantial timber and time savings.

Geopanel is also very fast to install and allows to easily create structures of any size and shape without the use of cranes or other mechanical lifting devices, thus reducing labor and operating costs.

Geopanel for the building of hemp walls in Baardskeerdersbos, South Africa

Baardskeerdersbos Geopanel

Geopanel peculiarities have proven to be decisive in the recent residential project in Baardskeerdersbos (locally known as B’bos), a village in the Overberg region of the Western Cape province of South Africa.

The prominent Eco Architect Oliver Wolf has chosen this Geoplast innovative solution for the creation of hemp walls, a material that has innovative insulating properties. Underlying the green benefits of this resource, Wolf remarks that “you’ll end up with a house that is superiorly insulated, compared to a brick house”. Hemp is also biodegradable and ultimately has a cradle-to-cradle lifecycle.

In the Baardskeerdersbos project, all the walls were entirely made with hempcrete, without any concrete. Geopanel minimized the use of plywood and timber shutters while guaranteeing great results and the on-site waste reduction.
