Conventional parking intensifies urban heat and runoff
Asphalt and concrete parking areas trap heat, seal the soil, and increase surface runoff. This reduces outdoor comfort and puts greater pressure on drainage infrastructure. The result is higher surface temperatures, greater flood risk, and reduced urban resilience.
Geoplast green solutions create resilient parking areas
Geoplast green solutions respond with permeable and vegetated paving solutions that keep parking areas functional while improving climate resilience. Geograss, Salvaverde, Geoflor, and Runfloor stabilize surfaces, protect grass, and allow rainwater to infiltrate the soil. This approach improves parking design by reducing runoff, supporting vegetation growth, and creating more comfortable outdoor spaces. Here are projects using green solutions for parking areas:
Green driveway, Lidl supermarket, Italy
Runfloor, a permeable grid, was selected for the Lidl supermarket green driveway to create a stable surface for vehicle traffic while allowing rainwater to infiltrate. It supports grass growth, improves water drainage, and helps create a more climate-resilient green area.
Green parking for urban heat island mitigation, Italy
Runfloor was used to create a durable vegetated driveway with fast installation, documented at 100 m²/hour per worker in the available project reference. The product helped maintain a permeable and vegetated surface where conventional hard paving would increase heat absorption. Its urban heat island benefit comes from preserving vegetation and reducing exposed mineral surface. The project shows how commercial access areas can remain functional while improving outdoor thermal comfort.
A new gravel car park, UK
Runfloor was used for the new gravel car park in Grimsby to create a stable and durable surface for vehicle traffic. It helps prevent gravel movement, improve rainwater infiltration, and provide a practical alternative to traditional paved parking.
