Green parking for urban heat island mitigation, Brescia, Italy
Salvaverde reduced the urban heat island effect in Brescia, Italy, while providing a durable and visually appealing green parking surface.
Designed as part of sustainable city strategies, Salvaverde replaces traditional asphalt and stone paving with cool pavements that can lower land surface temperatures (LST) by more than 6°C.
Salvaverde further improved sustainability through:
- Improved stormwater management in the area with a 95% permeable honeycomb structure,
- Reduced waste and use of concrete and aggregates by being made of 100% recycled plastic.
Thanks to its innovative double-overlap locking system, installation reached a speed of 100 m² per hour with a single worker. Combined with a load capacity of 350 t/m², Salvaverde provided excellent resistance to mechanical stress, maintaining surface stability under heavy traffic and varying weather conditions.
