Kindergartens to factories – cut 43 % energy with green roofs
24 September 2025
Green roofs built with Drainroof and Completa cut the building sector’s energy demand, lowering consumption by up to 43% across various building types, from kindergartens to factories.
The building sector is a major consumer of global energy, accounting for over 30% of worldwide energy use. Geoplast green roofs can reduce building energy by up to 43% while also improving stormwater management, mitigating the urban heat island, and creating urban recreational spaces.
Here are some of our standout green roof projects and what they achieved:
With sustainability at the core of the project, the builders chose Completa – our pre-vegetated modular tray, delivering improved thermal insulation and fast and easy setup.
Drainroof was installed on the new classroom wings along the school courtyard. In addition to improving energy efficiency, it created a green garden at entrance level, enhancing the school’s outdoor spaces.
The underground building structure provided excellent side insulation, leaving the roof as the largest exposed surface. Drainroof covered the roof, reducing energy use, and integrating the building into the surrounding natural landscape.
Located in a sensitive natural area, the 2.000 m² parking garage needed to blend with its surroundings. Drainroof created a rooftop garden that maximized green space while reducing energy consumption.
The Vimar complex, combining industrial and administrative functions, was developed with energy efficiency and low maintenance as priorities. Drainroof sedum green roof required no irrigation, cutting both energy use and upkeep costs.
