Aquabox provided efficient rainwater storage for BBVA Stadium

BBVA Stadium in Mexico required an efficient underground rainwater storage solution to manage heavy rainfall while preserving the full usability of public areas around the facility.

To address this, Geoplast team selected Aquabox, creating underground tanks beneath green spaces, parking areas, pathways, and accessible public zones. The solution allowed rainwater and runoff to be stored below ground and made available for reuse in park irrigation and other technical facility needs, reducing pressure on the municipal water network.

The underground rainwater storage basins were designed with a total net capacity of 9,373 m³. Thanks to its 96% void ratio, Aquabox maximized storage volume while reducing excavation compared with traditional gravel-based solutions.

The modular layout allowed the basins to adapt to different site depths, from 2 up to 4 levels, responding to the project’s topography and space constraints. The lightweight, stackable modules also simplified transport and site logistics, avoiding the heavy handling requirements of precast concrete tanks and reducing disruption during installation.

Aquabox was selected for its high storage efficiency, fast modular installation, structural strength, and inspectability over time. The result was a concealed, high-capacity stormwater management solution that improved hydraulic safety, supported water reuse, and protected the stadium’s usable outdoor areas during intense rainfall events.
