Durante il freddo i tetti verdi contengono il calore all&#8217;interno dell\u2019edificio. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earth.columbia.edu\/eidirectory\/view\/271\">Il dott. Stuart Gaffin<\/a> dell\u2019Earth Institute dell\u2019Universit\u00e0 della Columbia ha calcolato che i tetti verdi possono raggiungere l&#8217;87% di riduzione dell&#8217;incremento di calore ed il 37% di riduzione della dispersione di calore. In pi\u00f9, i tetti verdi assorbono fino al\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/blog\/2011\/may\/19\/green-roof-gardens-plants-new-york\">70% dell\u2019acqua piovana<\/a> che in altri casi andrebbe sprecata o ne richiederebbe la gestione.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Esiste la possibilit\u00e0 che i tetti verdi di New York City superino drasticamente le altre superfici verdi, Central Park incluso, cambiando cos\u00ec il clima locale e riducendo l\u2019effetto isola di calore.
