{"id":54098,"date":"2018-01-24T08:23:14","date_gmt":"2018-01-24T08:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/?p=54098"},"modified":"2019-06-24T14:36:21","modified_gmt":"2019-06-24T14:36:21","slug":"modulo-project-link-house-centurion-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/blog\/modulo-project-link-house-centurion-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Modulo Project: The Link House in Centurion, South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/foundations\/modulo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Modulo<\/a>, Geoplast permanent crawl space formwork, was chosen by the Pretoria-based architect studio <a href=\"http:\/\/streyarchitects.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strey Architects<\/a> to secure the foundations of\u00a0<strong>Link House<\/strong>, one of its latest creations in<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Centurion,_Gauteng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Centurion<\/a>, next to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pretoria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pretoria<\/a>, the administrative capital of South Africa.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/streyarchitects.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strey Architects<\/a> philosophy is to optimize the natural elements of the site and local climatic conditions, through the use of innovative sustainable design principles.\r\n\r\nThe <strong>Link House<\/strong> is an energy-efficient \u201ccontemporary farmhouse\u201d in cement-washed bricks, designed to have the lowest possible impact on the environment while still being functional and practical.\u00a0It is U-shaped, with a south wing that comprises the lounge and open-plan kitchen and dining area, and a north wing that comprises the bedrooms and bathrooms.\r\n\r\nThe house is built on a raft foundation, as the area is subject to sinkholes. Geoplast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/foundations\/modulo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Modulo<\/a> was particularly suitable for this type of foundation and allowed for the entire floor to be insulated.\r\n\r\nIt was a perfect alternative to standard raft system for <strong>3 reasons<\/strong>:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Significant <strong>decrease of the risk of cracks<\/strong> forming through the foundation to the walls, where sink holes could occur in the ground.
