In order to the transition to be successful, it is necessary to develop an implementation plan. This plan aims is to identify a common vision that focuses on the transition pathway and mechanisms the region needs, to become a water sensitive city.\r\n\r\nSEQ already has many elements in line with the concept of water sensitive city:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>The region is <strong>rich in waterways<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>There is a good understanding of water quality as a good environmental value for the region;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>SEQ has <strong>networked water systems<\/strong>;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>There is a solid understanding of the<strong> flood risks<\/strong> of the region.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-71167 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/queensland_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1240\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/queensland_2.png 1240w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/queensland_2-300x121.png 300w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/queensland_2-768x310.png 768w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/queensland_2-1024x413.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/queensland_2-224x90.png 224w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/queensland_2-124x50.png 124w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/queensland_2-570x230.png 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1240px) 100vw, 1240px\" \/>\r\n\r\nThese changes aim to the complete <strong>requalification of urban areas<\/strong> which, due to climate changes, are more and more subjected to frequent rainfalls and intense storms.\r\n\r\nWe can take for example the <strong>Municipality of Brisbane<\/strong> that wants to upgrade buildings with:\r\n\r\n<strong>Green Roofs<\/strong>, a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/green\/drainroof\/\">Geoplast&#8217;s Drainroof<\/a>)\r\n\r\n<strong>Green Facades<\/strong>, growing climbing plants up and across the facade of a building. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/green\/wall-y\/\">Geoplast&#8217;s Wall-Y<\/a>)\r\n\r\n<strong>Water Squares<\/strong>, large surfaces provided with a rainwater drainage system. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/water\/drening\/\">Geoplast&#8217;s Drening<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/water\/new-elevetor-tank\/\">Geoplast&#8217;s New Elevetor Tank<\/a>)\r\n\r\n<strong>Permeable Roads and Surfaces<\/strong>, which consist of a variety of types of pavement, pavers and other devices that provide stormwater infiltration while serving as a structural surface. (See Geoplast&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/green\/georoad\/\">Georoad<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/green\/geograss\/\">Geograss<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/green\/runfloor\/\">Runfloor<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/green\/salvaverde\/\">Salvaverde<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/green\/geoflor\/\">Geoflor<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/green\/geogravel\/\">Geogravel<\/a>).\r\n\r\nMoreover, the Municipality developed an urban requalification plan called <a href=\"http:\/\/Norman Creek Master Plan\">Norman Creek Master Plan .<\/a> This plan is a guide for a long-term investment in order to reshape the cities relationship with water. It shows where to focus and what is possible and establishes:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>The increasing of parklands and waterways;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The increasing of trees and vegetation to build creek habitats;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The reduction of the impact of pollution and litter on waterways.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-71176 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Queensland-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1240\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Queensland-1.png 1240w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Queensland-1-300x121.png 300w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Queensland-1-768x310.png 768w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Queensland-1-1024x413.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Queensland-1-224x90.png 224w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Queensland-1-124x50.png 124w, https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Queensland-1-570x230.png 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1240px) 100vw, 1240px\" \/>\r\n\r\nIn order to do this, a process of <strong>greening, smart building, and urban stormwater harvesting<\/strong> should start. This could help the restoring of the hydrological balance, while respecting the environment and also it could be a flood prevention measure, to facilitate the infiltration of water in the subsoil and refill the aquifers.\r\n<div>A range of long-terms plans and investments that will transform the cities into <strong>eco-friendly places, in complete balance with nature.<\/strong><\/div>\r\n&nbsp;","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South East Queensland (SEQ) is planning a water sensitive future for the region and its cities.
