Although many have been closed during the Covid \u2018retail apocalypse\u2019, their number is now <a href=\"https:\/\/nrf.com\/blog\/us-retailers-announced-many-store-openings-in-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">steadily rising<\/a> &#8211; over 8,000 openings were announced in 2021, preceding the number of closings by more than double.\r\n\r\nDespite the fact that every opening requires refurbishments and presents an opportunity to improve sustainable profitability, big-box stores keep repeating old errors: rainwater is managed with retention ponds, flat roofs are wasting heating and cooling energy, while asphalt parkings increase flood risks and urban heat islands.\r\n\r\nSimultaneously, climate crisis awareness is steadily rising among political actors, the media, and most importantly &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/nrf.com\/research\/consumers-want-it-all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">customers<\/a> making the adaptation of big-box stores paramount for their future expansion and profit.\r\n\r\nWe have developed many efficient and easy-to-install solutions, able to increase the sustainable profitability of old and newly built big-box stores right now:\r\n\r\n<strong style=\"font-size:18px;\">Stormwater management<\/strong>\r\nSolving rainwater management problems with retention ponds brings on a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/blog\/replace-stormwater-retention-ponds-with-our-innovations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maintenance issues<\/a> and increases CO2 emissions.
