{"id":158590,"date":"2021-08-25T08:52:36","date_gmt":"2021-08-25T08:52:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/?p=158590"},"modified":"2024-02-29T10:45:00","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T10:45:00","slug":"aquabox-stormwater-management-at-milan-bergamo-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/blog\/aquabox-stormwater-management-at-milan-bergamo-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"Aquabox stormwater management at Milan Bergamo Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"The number of passengers at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.milanbergamoairport.it\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Milan Bergamo Airport<\/a> grew by 14 times since 2003, hitting the record-breaking  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalairportreview.com\/article\/109420\/handling-passenger-growth-milan-bergamo-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">13 million by the end of 2019<\/a>. In an effort to improve the service, the airport invested \u20ac 435 million in its 2030 development plan. The first phase was the 70,000 m2 East terminal, scheduled for opening in April 2020.\r\n\r\nWe were approached by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.milesisergiosrl.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Milesi Geom. Sergio<\/a> construction company with the problem of engineering a high-capacity stormwater dispersion basin that would serve the airport\u2019s infrastructure areas. The existing terminals remained operational during construction, so along with the basin\u2019s efficiency, the building speed was vital in maintaining as little disruption as possible.\r\n\r\nSolutions such as concrete pipes and wells were weighing several tons, which made them difficult to handle and transport. Gravel, on the other hand, demanded large excavation depths and volumes in order to provide efficient drainage.\r\n\r\n\r\nOur experts suggested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/products\/water\/aquabox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aquabox<\/a>: it was modular, lightweight, stackable, and exceedingly faster to install, taking dozens of truckloads less to transport. It was also recycled, high load-bearing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/blog\/aquabox-is-100-inspectable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">100 % inspectable<\/a>, and had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geoplastglobal.com\/en\/blog\/aquabox-is-3-times-better-than-gravel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">96 % retention capacity<\/a>, coming forward as a far more efficient and sustainably profitable solution than the alternatives.\r\n\r\nAquabox was our newest product at the time, announced just months before, but was recognized as perfect for the task, getting the immediate application in the field.
