However, they must be scaled up from details to general mass approach. We designed these solutions to deliver a global impact only if they are implemented at scale. Green facades are one of the best examples of how a sustainable technology is reduced often to simple decoration.\r\n\r\nGreen facades are part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/266078897_Green_wall_systems_A_review_of_their_characteristics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">strategy for more sustainable cities<\/a> and, because of their ability to absorb heat (sunlight) and water, they are excellent solutions for urban heat management, reduction of building energy costs, and water management.\r\n<h3>Green facade benefits:<\/h3>\r\n<h2>Economic benefits<\/h2>\r\nDue to improved insulation from the solar heat, the use of air-conditioning appliances and energy waste is decreased. Both summer and winter season provide cost-saving from cooling and heating, making the building or even urban quarter economically more sustainable.\r\n<h2>Urban heat island<\/h2>\r\nBoth on the micro and the urban level, the green facades decrease the temperature and therefore impact the climate. They also insulate the building\u2019s \u2018shell\u2019 and interior due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfs.semanticscholar.org\/6ed4\/250ea02bc596ef19a9eff1809b5f2d3617ae.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weakened solar energy<\/a>. The building is this way more resilient to the rise of the temperature, and on urban scale less heat is emitted.\r\n<h2>Water absorption<\/h2>\r\nThe green walls are also useful as the absorbers of the rainwater which feeds the plants. Green areas in general, if properly drained, absorb the rainwater decreasing the flooding risk. This common effect on the urban level is called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/327615116_Transitioning_to_Sponge_Cities_Challenges_and_Opportunities_to_Address_Urban_Water_Problems_in_China\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018the sponge city\u2019<\/a>.\r\n<h2>Wellness improvements<\/h2>\r\nIt is proven that when we, and especially children, are exposed to the greenery we are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2019\/03\/growing-up-near-green-space-is-good-for-adult-mental-health?utm_source=Facebook%20Videos&amp;utm_medium=Facebook%20Videos&amp;utm_campaign=Facebook%20Video%20Blogs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">less in danger of mental diseases development<\/a>.
